Frequently Asked Questions

  • A Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) is a mental health professional trained to provide psychotherapy. I help people understand themselves and their relationships more deeply while guiding them in healing from stress and life challenges. I help people understand themselves and their relationships while working through stress and life challenges. I mostly see individuals, but I also work with families during times of change. My focus is on how your relationships and environment impact your well-being, and how we can work together to shift those patterns toward something more manageable and true to you.

  • The first therapy session is called an “Intake,” but I like to think of it as a longer consultation. It’s a chance for us to slow down and begin exploring what’s brought you to therapy. There’s no need to have a perfect story or clear goals at this point. I’ll ask a few questions to get a sense of where you’re coming from, but it’s really about starting a conversation. My focus is on creating a safe, supportive space where we can begin to understand what you’re carrying and how I can best support you.

  • I’m a therapist because therapy had a profound impact on my own life. I take a relational approach with my clients, focusing on guiding you toward a deeper understanding of yourself. I’m not here to “fix” you, because you’re not broken. Many of the people I work with feel overwhelmed, disconnected, or uncertain about what’s next, almost like they’re drowning. My work is about exploring those feelings with curiosity, not judgment. I’m here to help you connect with who you are, ease the pressure you’re feeling, and move toward meaningful, lasting change in your life and relationships.

  • No, I don’t only work with men. While I specialize in working with men, I see people of all genders. I focus on helping anyone who’s dealing with life challenges, building self-awareness, and improving relationships.  My focus is on supporting anyone who wants to understand themselves better and make positive changes in their lives.

  • I don’t bill insurance directly, but I’m considered an out-of-network provider. Many clients can get reimbursement through their insurance’s out-of-network benefits. If that’s available to you, I can provide a monthly superbill to help with the process. And if you’re unsure how it works, I’m more than happy to walk you through it.

    • Cancellations and rescheduled sessions will be subject to a full charge if NOT RECEIVED AT LEAST 24 HOURS IN ADVANCE. This is necessary because a time commitment is made to you and is held exclusively for you. Sessions will begin and end at scheduled times, even if you arrive late.

    • The standard meeting time for the session is 55 minutes. Requests to modify the 55-minute session need to be discussed with the therapist for time to be scheduled in advance."

  • (2799B-6 of the Public Health Service Act, January 2022)

You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your treatment will cost. Under the law, all health care providers need to provide their patients an estimate of their bill for services – if their patients don’t have insurance or will not be using insurance.

You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any of your services.

You can also ask for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service. (If you receive a bill that is $400 more than the Good Faith Estimate you received, you can dispute the bill).

Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.
